Decorated with a scene of figures by a riverbank to front body, the reverse with calligraphy and signed Chen Guozhi, the base inscribed with apocryphal Qianlong mark. Qing Dynasty period, 19th century.

Provenance: The Taylor Family Collection of Chinese Art, San Francisco. Acquired in the 1960s and 1970s from antique markets in California and Hong Kong, including Gump's in San Francisco and the antique shops at the Peninsula Hotel in Hong Kong
陳國治，安徽祁門人，道光至咸豐年間景德鎮雕瓷名手，善於在瓷板上雕刻花卉，深淺適度，富有畫意。陳國治汲取前人雕塑精華，將文人藝術精神融入創作之中，有別於普通工匠的雕瓷，將瓷雕與釉色相結合，仿竹木、象牙器，無不神形俱備。洪憲御瓷陶務監督郭葆昌曾說:「南有陳國治，北有王炳榮，雕瓷賽金玉，出手王侯輕」。又金武祥(1841-1925)《粟香隨筆》云:「道光時有鎮人陳國治者，彩畫雕鏤，名重一時。又不輕作，每一器值數十金。」
