Executed in 2024 and minted on 9 January 2025. This work is unique and accompanied by a non-fungible token.Minted by the artist, 2025The Swimming Hall fuses two historically distinct AI methodologies—Generative AI and Large Language Models—into a single creative process. The artist, drawing on a background in photography and inspired by the “Brenizer Method” of overlapping image tiles, devised a pioneering workflow that intricately layers multiple prompts to produce a seamless yet richly varied composition.
This method begins with a purpose-built Python application, itself authored through an AI-assisted process. Instead of a single prompt shaping the entire image, the artwork’s 24 tiles (arranged in a 4 by 6 grid) are guided by unique prompts generated by a Large Language Model. The LLM first conceptualizes an overarching visual narrative—determining the piece’s general layout and thematic elements—before issuing discrete instructions for each tile. The artist then employs inpainting techniques to ensure these tiles blend together flawlessly, referencing adjacent sections to unify horizon lines and textures.
Notably, this meticulous approach demands a far slower pace than standard generative pipelines, yielding only a few complex and highly detailed tiles per hour. Yet the result is a composition of extraordinary nuance and depth, far surpassing in detail and diversity the uniformity that would emerge from a single all-encompassing prompt. The artwork thus becomes an emblem of creative dialogue between dual strands of AI: the computational imagination of diffusion-based models and the structured, narrative intelligence of LLMs.
Within
The Swimming Hall, one discerns not just an exploration of swimming halls and architectural nuance, but also a blueprint for the future of multimodal AI artistry. It is a testament to how generative systems can evolve beyond mere automation, adopting a holistic, composite perspective informed by language, code, and visual design. By aligning these two branches of artificial intelligence, the artist posits a new paradigm for digital creation—one in which the synergy of diverse AI approaches amplifies the expressive range of each individual technique.
